GWNET leads the development of several women mentoring programmes designed to accelerate the careers of women in the energy sector, support their pathway to leadership positions and foster a global network of mentorship, knowledge-sharing and empowerment.

Current mentoring programmes

GWNET’s mentoring programmes provide women in the energy sector with access to experienced industry leaders for personalised support and guidance. These initiatives focus on fostering professional growth, skill development, and valuable networking opportunities to enhance participants’ careers.

We are proud to launch the first edition of this mentorship programme, dedicated to advancing the careers of women energy professionals from the SADC region. The initiative is led by the Global Women's Network for the Energy Transition (GWNET) in collaboration with the SADC Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE), with financial support from the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), the operational unit of Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC).

GWNET in collaboration with the Clean Cooking Alliance (CCA) and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) is excited to launch the fourth cohort of a mentorship program specifically targeting women in the clean cooking sector in Africa, Asia, and Haiti. Following the success of our 2021, 2022, and 2023 cohort we are thrilled to continue supporting and uplifting women in the clean cooking sector.

The Women in Wind Global Leadership Program 2024, jointly organised by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and the Global Women’s Network for the Energy Transition, accelerates the careers of women in the wind industry, supporting their paths to leadership while fostering a global network for mentorship, knowledge-sharing, and empowerment.

Run by GWNET, ESP and ESMAP
To empower women as leaders of change and promote best practices towards gender diversity and inclusion in the energy storage sector, the Secretariat of the Energy Storage Partnership, hosted by the World Bank’s Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP), is once again collaborating with the Global Women’s Network for the Energy Transition (GWNET) to launch a mentoring program specifically for women in energy storage.

GWNET and Women in Power System Transformation (Women in PST) Initiative

To promote an equitable and inclusive energy transition, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Global Women’s Network for the Energy Transition (GWNET) launched the second edition of this mentoring program to support women in the renewable energy sector across Central Asia.

The Women in Renewable Energy in Africa mentoring program addresses the gender gap in the renewable energy sector and aims to advance the careers of mid-career women working in the energy transition.

The Global Women’s Network for the Energy Transition (GWNET) on behalf of the German Energy Agency (dena) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), under the German bilateral energy partnerships, was excited to present the second cohort of the “Women in Energy Empowerment” mentoring programme.

Energising Women to Advance the Energy Transition was organised in cooperation with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and supporting partners adelphi and Guidehouse on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK).

2023 Women in Clean Cooking Mentorship Program
Run by GWNET, CCA and SEforALL
The 2023 Women in Clean Cooking Mentorship Program, co-organised by the Clean Cooking Alliance (CCA), Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), and the Global Women’s Network for the Energy Transition (GWNET), marked the third edition of this initiative, supporting early to mid-career women in the clean cooking sector.
