The GWNET 2023 Annual Report

Since its founding, GWNET has been committed to advancing women’s careers in the global energy sector. Our 2023 Annual Report offers a detailed overview of GWNET’s work over the year and sheds light on steps we have taken to nurture female talent and encourage women’s participation in the energy industry. Throughout 2023, GWNET has collaborated with a number of influential organisations to implement both regional and international mentoring programmes dedicated to empowering female professionals in the sector. Likewise, by fostering networks, conducting research, and advocating for policy changes, GWNET has continued to play a crucial role in advancing gender equality in energy.

Key milestones for GWNET in 2023 include:

  • Expanding our network to 4,000+ individual and corporate members from 150+ countries, with a social media reach of 14,000 followers.
  • Signing five new Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with regional and national women in energy network partners.
  • Supporting over 300 women through our mentoring programs and organised a study tour for mentees from 17 countries.
  • Contributing to several publications and advocated for gender-just energy transitions globally.
  • Welcoming 11 new partners to the Gender and Energy Compact, an initiative by UNIDO, ENERGIA, and GWNET, with SEforALL joining as a coordinating member.
  • Improving the availability of gender-disaggregated data and conducted in-depth studies of specific regions.
