Gender Indicators for Sustainable Energy: A Call to Action

The Policy Brief “Gender Indicators for Sustainable Energy: A Call to Action” was officially launched at a side-event of the 2025 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) in July 2025. The document underscores the essential links between SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy). The Brief was developed jointly by members of the SDG 7 Technical Advisory Group — including the Gender & Energy Compact’s co-conveners (UNIDO, ENERGIA, GWNET, SEforALL). Co-organised by ESMAP, UN Women, UN DESA, IEA, IRENA, and the Gender & Energy Compact co-conveners, the launch event marked a key milestone during the HLPF’s final in-depth review of SDG 5. Coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action, the launch called for urgent, data-driven action to ensure a just and inclusive energy transition.
