Empowering Central Asian Women in Renewable Energy

To promote an equitable and inclusive energy transition, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Global Women’s Network for the Energy Transition (GWNET) launched the second edition of this mentoring program to support women in the renewable energy sector across Central Asia.

The second cohort of the program comprises 31 women energy professionals from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. During this 12-month experience, each mentee is partnered with a mentor—a seasoned expert in the energy sector—who provides career support, networking opportunities, and advice on navigating challenges within a male-dominated industry. Alongside mentoring, participants are also attending an online course regarding the significance of women in renewable energy, female leadership in the energy field, and advancing fair and inclusive energy transitions. A select group of mentees shall also participate in a study tour in Vienna, where they can take part in energy-relevant site visits and workshops.

About OSCE: The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) has a comprehensive approach to security that encompasses politico-military, economic and environmental, and human aspects. It therefore addresses a wide range of security-related concerns, including arms control, confidence- and security-building measures, human rights, national minorities, democratization, policing strategies, counter-terrorism and economic and environmental activities. All 57 participating States enjoy equal status, and decisions are taken by consensus on a politically, but not legally binding basis.
