Short Bio:
Thabisile Maloka is an electrical engineering professional with over 20 years of experience in the South African energy sector. Currently serving as the Acting Distributed Energy Integration Manager at City Power Johannesburg, she leads critical initiatives in modernizing urban power infrastructure and integrating renewable energy solutions. Her career journey reflects a unique progression from the trade level to technical management. Starting as an electrician in 2003, she built a strong practical foundation before transitioning into engineering roles. She spent several years as a Power Systems Protection Technician, specializing in the maintenance and upgrade of secondary plant systems for high-voltage intake stations. This extensive field experience is backed by a National Diploma and an Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering, as well as a certification as a Green Hydrogen Specialist. In her current role within the Grid Access Department, Thabisile is responsible for the technical coordination of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Small-Scale Embedded Generation (SSEG) pilot programs. Her work focuses on ensuring grid stability through advanced digital protection retrofits and the strategic integration of distributed energy resources. Beyond her technical responsibilities, Thabisile is a member of the Southern African Energy Efficiency Confederation (SAEEC) and is currently pursuing professional registration as an Engineering Technologist with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). She is committed to advancing the energy transition and fostering sustainable, resilient power systems for the future.
