Short Bio:
Francelis Morillo Suarez joined MAPC’s Clean Energy Department in October 2021 as a Clean Energy and Climate Fellow. In her role, she provides technical assistance to communities for their climate mitigation and resilience work in the Greater Boston region, and advocates for centering equity in plans, policies, programs, and community engagement. She became a co-coordinator in 2023 for the MAPC North Suburban Planning Council subregion, consisting of nine cities and towns, through which she assists municipal staff members with various types of planning work by hosting monthly meetings and providing resources and support. As an Afro-Latina and a resident of an environmental justice community, she is very passionate about equitably creating more resilient communities while simultaneously mitigating climate change. She is passionate about climate justice and bringing a public health lens into her work, while keeping racial equity at the forefront, especially when it comes to community engagement. Francelis currently is a member of the Board of Trustees for her former middle school, Esperanza Academy, a tuition-free, all-girls middle school, in Lawrence, MA, focused on restorative justice, community support, and joy. She received a Sustainability Certificate and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies and Italian Studies from Wellesley College. She recently received a Climate Change & Health Certificate from the Yale School of Public Health.
