Short Bio:
Amina Shahab is a Research Associate in the Energy Transition and Climate Justice Group at the Policy Research Institute for Equitable Development, where she leads policy analysis and technical assessments on coal phase-out pathways, renewable energy integration, and the socio-economic impacts of fossil fuel–based energy systems on rural and vulnerable communities. Her work supports Pakistan’s shift toward clean energy, including contributions to the decarbonization of CPEC’s power projects, mobilizing global climate finance, and designing equitable and community-centered energy transition strategies. She specializes in energy modeling, power system planning, and renewable integration, with experience in PLEXOS, PSS/E, HOMER Pro, RETScreen, MATLAB, Python, and SQL. Her research spans grid modernization, BESS deployment in aging power systems, e-mobility, net-zero buildings, and the intersection of energy planning with climate justice and social inclusion. She has worked across technical, policy, and community-facing dimensions, facilitating stakeholder engagement, multi-party dialogues, and capacity-building initiatives. Throughout her academic and early professional life, Amina has been a visible and committed advocate for women in engineering. She led “Women in Engineering” initiatives at her university, championing representation for the extremely small percentage of female engineering students. She mentored young women, created supportive peer networks, and actively worked to strengthen their participation, confidence, and leadership in STEM fields. Her commitment to gender equity continues to guide her work in the energy transition space, where she prioritizes inclusive planning and the meaningful involvement of underrepresented groups. Amina brings a blend of technical expertise, policy insight, and a deep commitment to gender equality—aligning closely with GWNET’s mission to advance women’s leadership in achieving a just and sustainable global energy transition.
