Short Bio:
Dr. Vija Pakalkaite is an analyst for Power and EU emissions trading system (EU ETS) at ICIS. Vija provides qualitative and quantitative analysis of the Baltic, Nordic and central-eastern European power markets and renewable energy regulation frameworks, as well as renewable energy support auctions and guarantees of origin across Europe. She also provides the electricity price modelling team with inputs as regards the future capacity, interconnectors and other relevant developments in a number of European countries. Vija has been awarded a summa cum laude PhD in Political Science by Central European University in 2017 and a Master of Arts in Economic Policy in Global Markets by the same university in 2012. Her PhD focused on the interest structures and liberalisation in natural gas markets of three new EU member states, Hungary, Lithuania and Romania. During her doctoral studies, Vija was a visiting researcher at Oxford Institute for Energy Studies (OIES) in 2016, as well as Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI in 2016-2017. With OIES, she published a study of Lithuania’s strategic use of EU energy policy tools to transform its natural gas sector dynamics.
