Short Bio:
Since childhood, I have been an inquisitive and curious child, wanting to know more about science and technology. This led me to pursue my studies in Electronics and Communication Engineering. College gave me, a shy girl, the required exposure to both analytics and soft skills. After college, I started as a software engineer then switched to a shipping industry, MAZAGON DOCK LIMITED, MUMBAI. However, my inner desire to contribute to India’s growth story was not satisfied. So,I prepared and made into NTPC, India’s largest energy producer. During my time at NTPC, I moved places and performed various operational roles.
During my stint in Visakhapatnam, I was responsible for the commissioning of 2 X 500 MW units. Commercialization of these units has led to the addition of 3.6 crores per day as revenue for NTPC. My work also required managing a team of 20 skilled and unskilled labor sourced from multiple vendors. This experience taught me the importance of communication while working with the bottom of the pyramid. In my present role at Mouda, 2320 MW plant, I lead a team of 25 people, have increased man-power efficiencies by 20% and implemented solutions to increase power generation productivity by 10%.
Out of many things that I love about my work, the one close to my heart is making my place in a male-dominated industry, breaking the stereotype and encouraging girls to pursue STEM and core industries. My current role has taught me to use analytical skills to make tough decisions under pressure when a wrong call can lead to a revenue loss of 15-18 crores/day. I am part of professional circle-meets where we present new ideas in the organization. I have presented a feasibility report on non-conventional energy implementations in NTPC which would help secure a future additional capacity of 30 GW renewable energy in the next 10 years. Working in NTPC, I learned the importance of cultural flexibility, the value of the energy sector, and the criticality of sustainable and greener energy for India’s growth story. However, there are instances in my current role I feel I would be able to contribute better if I have an understanding of other aspects of businesses – finance, organizational behavior. Also, as the energy sector is getting transformed because of technology and sustainability, the new leaders would need to upskill themselves. keep working towards improving my technical skills and widening my perspective. In line with that,I have completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Energy Management (PGDME) in 2021 from NSB ,NOIDA (NTPC SCHOOL OF BUSINESS). It was a company-sponsored course. With the added tools and learnings in the business tacits , I wish to see my transformation from a manager to a leader in the future energy sector.
