Short Bio:
For three decades after graduating from Washington State University with a degree in physical metallurgy, Katherine Leighton worked in shockwave physics and in inventing, designing and manufacturing armor products that were extensively sold, most notably to the U.S. Department of Defense. In 2014 she made a career change into renewable energy and shortly thereafter started leading Littoral Power Systems, Inc.’s (LPS) R&D program for hydropower, fish passage and current and wave energy. After nine years leading R&D programs she stepped in to fill the role of interim President of the commercial subsidiary LPS Hydro Solutions, Inc. Currently she is a Principal of LPS and is expanding her work into project development for both hydropower and marine energy.
