Short Bio:
Joan is a Renewable Finance Professional who is at the forefront of providing a solution to the over 600 M of the households in Sub Saharan Africa who lack access to electricity. Her main area of expertise are Power Purchase Agreements development and negotiation, developing financial models for different generation technologies, financial and economic valuation of renewable energy projects, project structuring both on project and corporate finance basis . She have been involved in project structuring, tariff setting and PPA negotiation of major renewable energy projects in Kenya whose total project cost is over is over 1 billion USD. Joan is a Young African Leader Initiative (YALI) Power Africa Women in Energy finalist, and represented Kenya in the 2019 South African Cohort. Joan  serves as a Trustee in the Board of Trustee for the KenGen Defined Contribution Retirement Benefit scheme , a pension fund with asset base of over 50 M USD.  She chairs the Audit and Risk committee of the KenGen Defined Contribution Retirement benefit Scheme board. Joan is the former secretary of the Pink energy forum which is a ladies forum in KENGEN with over 500 members, set up to enhances women empowerment and participation in KenGen. Joan is also a Volunteer expert at the Energy Society of Kenya the World Energy Council Kenyan chapter. Joan has a Master’s of Science in Finance and a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from the University of Nairobi. She is a Certified Expert in Climate and Renewable Energy Finance (CECRF) by Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA K) and a Certified Public Private Partnership Professional (CP3P) Foundation. She is a member of International Association of Energy Economists (IAEE), Women in African Power (WiAP), Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and Association of Women Accountants of Kenya (AWAK).
