Short Bio:
Dr Carol Maddock is a transdisciplinary researcher at Swansea University leading on applying Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) principles to next-generation solar innovation and energy access. Her work across the TEA@SUNRISE and REACH-PSM programmes examines how structural inequalities shape who participates in, and who benefits from, emerging photovoltaic technologies. Carol has extensive experience working with grassroots organisations and international partners to champion equitable access to next-generation solar technologies. She brings expertise in co-design, community engagement and participatory research to engineering-led innovation, ensuring that technological progress is grounded in local realities and inclusive practice. Committed to a just and socially responsible energy transition, she works to embed GEDSI considerations across research, policy and deployment activities. Her focus is on ensuring that the urgency to scale perovskite and other advanced PV technologies does not come at the expense of justice, inclusion, or meaningful participation.
