Description: The international conference “The Silk Road of Knowledge: Science Meets Green Policy”, organised by the Kazakh-German University was held online on February 23rd. Developed within the framework of the Green Central Asia Initiative, the conference promotes “enhancing cooperation and networking among scientists, policymakers, and practitioners, as well as the exchange of experience and accumulation of knowledge in the field of integrated water resources management, food security, infrastructure development, and energy efficiency practices in the context of climate change.”
One of the thematic sessions at the conference was titled Empowering women in the energy sector in Central Asia, which focused on “the barriers and opportunities for women’s empowerment in the energy sector in Central Asia, including in light of the job creation potential of renewable energy deployment in the region.”
GWNET Senior Advisor, Irene Giner-Reichl, took part in this session, alongside representatives from the Kazakh-German University (DKU), the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). In addition to discussions on barriers and opportunities, the speakers also explored the findings of a policy brief on women’s participation in the sustainable energy sector in Central Asia, as well as a survey on the same.
