The hydropower sector is expected to employ 3.7 million individuals by 2050, but currently struggles with a significant gender gap, with women making up only 25% of its workforce. The industry must urgently address barriers to gender equality in order to access the broadest possible talent pool. Based on research by GWNET and the International Hydropower Association (IHA), the World Bank’s Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP) has established the first global baseline for gender equality within the hydropower sector and presented a set of best practices to foster diversity and inclusivity.
