Description: A coalition, initiated by ENERGIA International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy (ENERGIA), GWNET and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and supported by the Governments of Iceland, Ecuador, Nepal, Kenya and Sweden launched a Gender and Energy Compact to catalyze action towards gender equality and women’s empowerment to accelerate a just, inclusive and sustainable energy transition.
The signatories undertake to support and promote actions for two main objectives.
- First, women have an equal opportunity to lead, participate and benefit from a just, sustainable and inclusive energy transition.
- Second, women have equal access and control over sustainable energy products and services.
GWNET Senior Advisor, Irene Giner-Reichl, took part in the launch event to re-emphasise GWNET’s endeavours in promoting gender-sensitive action and propel the path to a comprehensive energy transition.
