Vienna, Austria (Apr. 16, 2020) — One year ago, the Global Women’s Network for the Energy Transition (GWNET) launched the Women in Energy Expert Platform at the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue to connect and empower women working in sustainable energy in all parts of the world, with the aim to encourage greater visibility, networking opportunities and professional connections between women.
The platform which has quickly grown to over 1,000 members from 90+ countries demonstrates the diversity of roles and skills of women already active in the sector, refuting the claim that there are no women in renewable energy.
The first anniversary falls at a critical time globally, with the current global pandemic forcing us to utilise technology and virtual tools to connect and network within our organisations and across our industry.
With this in mind, GWNET has introduced a slew of new features to the platform, allowing members to network more efficiently and receive peer support as they navigate new styles of working, as well as explore new barriers and opportunities for the energy sector at this critical time.
“We believe that now more than ever, it is imperative that we make female excellence in sustainable energy more visible and make it simpler for women in energy to connect and engage with each other, regardless of where they are located or what stage of their career they are in,” said GWNET Executive Director, Christine Lins. “We are honoured to bring together a diverse and brilliant group of women making a difference in the energy sector, and we aim to strengthen the connections between women working in the sector, in order to achieve the goals set out in SDG 7.”
Women working in sustainable energy are encouraged to explore the platform and create their free profile so that they can begin engaging with other professionals, through the available fora, groups and messaging features.
Event organisers are also encouraged to use the platform as a tool when looking for women speakers across the entire sustainable energy value chain.
