AWEaP: Building credible industry networks
The webinar on Building Credible Industry Networks was held on 20th July 2021.
The webinar focused on entrepreneurial opportunities available in the energy and power sector.
In attendance were representatives from GWNET, African Women in Energy and Power (AWEaP), SADC Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (SACREEE), South African Energy Association (SANEA), South Africa Wind Energy Association (SAWEA), ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), African Women Energy Entrepreneurs Framework (AWEEF), Women in Energy Ghana, Africa Women Innovation & Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF), SHE in Energy Africa, WECREATE Zambia, Mozambique Women of Energy, South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA), SADC Women in Business, and Women in Africa Power (WiAP).

The e-panel on Empowering the Energy Transition was held on 5th December 2020.
The panel examined political, business and societal obstacles to women, opportunities for gender equality in the renewable energy and personal success strategies.
In attendance was Geraldine de Bastion, Konnektivität Kollektiv & founder of Global Innovation (moderator), as well as Christine Lins, CEO & Founder of GWNET, H.E. Dr. Amani Abou-Zeid, Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy, and Katherine Lucey, CEO & Founder of Solar Sister.
The webinar on Women in Energy organised by Energy & Utilities was held on 2nd November 2020.
The webinar featured experts from GWNET, Women in Renewable Energy (Canada), and Women in Clean Energy (UAE).
Discussions revolved around how the energy sector remains one of the least gender-diverse sectors and how closing this gender gap will be vital as women are key drivers of innovative and inclusive energy solutions.
The first India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) webinar on Women in Energy Storage & EV was held on 2nd November 2020.
The webinar featured women industry leaders who have climbed up the ladder in the energy sector as well as emerging women leaders.
Discussions revolved around promoting women’s participation in emerging areas like EV. The session also launched the Women in Energy Network for Connecting, Educating, Inspiring, Networking & Empowering Women in the Clean Energy Transition.
The webinar on “the just energy transition” was held on 15th October 2020, as part of a series of dialogues on gender and energy hosted by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Climate and Energy Project in Asia with support from ENERGIA.
This series provided insights on how a gender lens can be applied to the energy transition and offered a platform for mutual learning.
The objectives of of the presentation included:
- Understanding the relationship between the energy transition and gender justice, and how they are mutually reinforcing
- Learning about the current status of women’s decision-making in the energy transition, its potential and opportunities
- Assessing how to define, design, collect, monitor and analyse data for a just energy transition
The Green Growth Knowledge Partnership webinar on Sustainability After COVID-19: Building Gender Equality into the Response was held on 26th May 2020.
The webinar featured experts from the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), GWNET, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO), and Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing & Organizing (WIEGO) and UN Women.
Discussions revolved around key questions on gender equality and COVID-19.
The International Solar Energy Society (ISES) webinar on Powering Renewables: Women in Solar Energy III was held on 5th May 2020.
The aim of this webinar was to highlight the perspectives of women working in solar energy, their professional as well as personal experience, their achievements and to demonstrate that a successful energy transformation can only be achieved when renewables become powered by equality!
Panellists included Christine Lins, GWNET Executive Director, Marlene Brown, Past President of the New Mexico Solar Energy Association, and Kathlen Schneider, a researcher at Solar Energy Research Lab Fotovoltaica-UFSC.
The GWNET webinar on “Networks Promoting Women in Energy” was held on Apr 7th 2020, with panellists addressing the different ways networks are supporting and promoting women in energy as well as the progress witnessed.
This webinar was the sixth in a series of 6 webinars, hosted in partnership with the Clean Energy Solutions Center and Clean Energy Education and Empowerment (C3E) International initiatives that aims to address the current roles of women in sustainable energy and the value and opportunities for increasing gender equality in this sector.
The GWNET webinar on the “Women’s Energy Entrepreneurship” was held on Mar 27th 2020, with panellists spotlighting the data and evidence base around women’s entrepreneurship in the energy sector which participants can use to inform policy and program design going forward.
This webinar was the fifth in a series of 6 webinars, hosted in partnership with the Clean Energy Solutions Center and Clean Energy Education and Empowerment (C3E) International initiatives that aims to address the current roles of women in sustainable energy and the value and opportunities for increasing gender equality in this sector.
The GWNET webinar on the “Women Empowerment: Best Practices for the Sustainable Energy Sector“ was held on Feb 19th 2020, with the speaker answering the question ‘What can we do to increase women’s employment in the sustainable energy sector?’ based on findings from GWNET’s new study “Women for Sustainable Energy: Strategies to Foster Women’s Talent for Transformational Change.”

This GWNET webinar, held on Dec 17th 2019, marked the official launch of GWNET’s first study “Women for Sustainable Energy – Strategies to Foster Women’s Talent for Transformational Change.”
This study contains an overview of women’s current participation in the sustainable energy workforce in developed and emerging economies, the benefits of diversity and inclusion in the workplace, industry interviews, good practice examples and recommendations for a more gender-diverse sector.
