We are deeply saddened by the passing of REN21 President, Arthouros Zervos, on 30th July.

Zervos was truly a force of nature in the renewable energy sector, dedicating over three decades to championing the global energy transition. His invaluable contributions helped shape policies worldwide, which were implemented by leading organisations at the forefront of this vital movement. As REN21 rightly states, Zervos was a “distinguished academic, visionary thought leader, and renewable energy pioneer.”

Zervos’ influence on GWNET was profound. He supported our organisation as a member of our Advisory Council and was a cherished friend and mentor to our Executive Director, Christine Lins. Lins collaborated closely with Zervos on several European and global projects for over 20 years. She recalls him as “a renewables visionary at a time when few believed that our energy system has to and will be based on renewables.”

GWNET extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Zervos. We wish them strength and comfort during this difficult time.
