Description: The International Renewable Energy Conference was held in Madrid, Spain, between the 20th and 23rd of February. Hosted by the Spanish government and REN21, the high-level policy event brought together decision-makers with the focus on “building collective know-how to advance renewables at the international, national and sub-national levels.”
GWNET Senior Advisor, Irene Giner-Reichl, took part as a panellist in two events at SPIREC.
1. Mind the Gap: Job offers & skilling
As part of this event, Irene took part in discussions on training a skilled workforce to meet the demand of the energy transition, as well as how the energy transition can act as a powerful force for job creation and skills development. Other participants during this event included:

2. Gender Equality: A critical pathway for a sustainable & inclusive energy transition
As part of this event, Irene took part in discussions on how to “showcase the opportunities the just energy transition presents to catalyse gender equality and women’s economic empowerment, generating multiple development benefits, and the needs for such processes to purposedly develop target approaches to integrate women as agents of change.” Other participants during this event included:
