Description: The Kick-off event for the Women in Renewable Energy in Africa (W-REA) Mentorship Program was held on the 17th of March 2022.

The aim of this event was to showcase the importance of male allyship in advancing women’s careers in the African Renewable Energy sector – this is a pertinent discussion as data from the International Renewable Energy Agency highlights how women make up only one-third of the global renewable energy workforce.

The event also showcased the 25 mentees selected as part of the first cohort of the W-REA and GWNET Mentorship initiative. Participants learned about the objectives of the mentorship and understood how leading women and men in the renewable energy sector can mentor and guide women in junior and middle management positions to ensure their successful career progression.

As part of this event, GWNET Communications Manager, Davina Ngei, also gave an overview of the mentorship program, while GWNET Executive Director, Christine Lins, provided closing remarks.
